  • Degree of Public Participation in Science Shops: An exploratory Study
    by Francesc Rodríguez. The objective of the research for the master thesis is to provide insights into the Science Shops and Community-Based Research centers and to shed light in particular on the degree of public participation in theses facilities.   • Curriculum Development through Science Shops

    More and more, European higher education is oriented towards the future role of students outside university, in society. The priority of higher education therefore shifts to teaching students how to continue to acquire new knowledge and to use knowledge in a societal context. Science shops offer one method to include experiences with these aspects in the curricula.

 

  • New Communities and Mental Health in Ireland: A Needs Analysis
    Dublin City University in partnership with Cairde
    This EC funded project was developed within the Science Shop framework as promoted by the International Science Shop Network and mentored by the Science Shop of Queen’s University, Belfast. The NewCom project dealt with two issues of major concern to Irish society that are generally under-researched and under-funded. These issues are mental health and the welfare of new communities.   • Science Shops – Thinking the future and twinning old/new shops
    Presentations of a workshop on the role of universities, partnerships with the NGOs and local entities, and the promotion of new Science Shops in Europe. Ongoing and new projects were presented and a possible partnership with FP6 projects was also discussed.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Communiqué on North-South Cooperation in Community-University Engagement
    Organized by the Global Alliance on Community Engaged Research (GACER) executive an experimental Global Video Dialogue on Enhancing North-South Cooperation in Community-University Engagement was set up on 23rd September 2010. The 8 participating global networks draw up a joint communiqué. Please feel free to forward it. Translations into a couple of more languages will be available soon.
